Emergency Preparedness

Earlier in case of emergencies in Japan like Earthquake or Tsunami, it was said that if you have 3 days of supplies in your emergency kit, it was sufficient and things will become normal by then.

But in recent years, this common approach is being slowly challenged by the acts of nature. Recent typhoon caused Chiba area’s power failure for more than 10 days and disrupted the normal life.

Hence from an average of 3 days preparation, now its being said that one should be prepared for 7 days at least if not more.

There has been a rough calculation made on this area and following is suggested as rule of thumb in terms of what basic things you need to survive and do your minimum business at home.

For one person:

Water

  • For 1 day, calculate at 3 liters of prep (drinking/food/cleaning)
  • For 7 days, 21 liters, Around 11 pet bottles of 2 liters each

Food stuff

  • At least for you to survive 1 whole week (7 days

Toilet

  • 5 times a day
  • Hence have 35 Emergency Toilet bags/ temporary portable toilet like this
