Key 6 Takeaways from Tokyo’s Governor Koike press conference
The metropolitan government shared info on 41 cases today, more than double its previous daily record of 17 the day before.
1. We are in “overshoot” possibility period i.e from containment phase to to spreading phase in official terms.
2. Schools reopening to be Re-evaluated. The assumption earlier was that since the primary schools are near one’s homes, hence it was approached like that in last advisory. But since we have received many feedback, we will revisit it again.
3. Mostly work from home and please avoid going out even on this weekend. On weekdays, do not hinder our in night.
4. College new session can be postponed to Golden week
5. If we continue by doing nothing and cases increase drastically, lockdown is not fully ruled out. For this the above requests are being made.
6. Follow these following three rules
Avoid following 3 situations |
Closed and poorly-ventilated spaces |
Crowds of people |
Verbal communication at close range |
There are already reactions on the announcement saying that “These measures were in place in Hokkaido too but the numbers did increase there”. The concern by the experts is “need to do more understanding the root cause and trails who are infected”. Expert do agree on above 3 steps in point 6 above, the spread can slow down drastically.
What we need to do remains the same basics that wash hands and follow social distancing.
In the mean time some schools are taking the school classes online as a work around during this unprecedented situation.
