Last year in Western Japan, in July, The torrential rains resulted in 237 deaths and 8 missing persons, including many elderly. In most of the cases reported last year, people were late in seeking refuge from flooding rivers and landslides despite the evacuation order issued by the Meteorological Agency and local governments. So if a nation wants to save human life, evacuation is the number one solution suggested.

In recent years, there has been frequent damage from heavy rains of ever-intensifying scale, as well as complaints that meteorological and evacuation information was difficult to understand.

If you have followed recent typhoon Hagibis, you must ask seen testimonies from the citizens saying that “I should have evacuated earlier”

This led the government to examine ways to make it easier for the public to understand the levels of danger.

So what they came up was with a New Five-Level Warning System Introduced for Heavy Rain Disasters

The aim was to save lives by clearly distinguishing between levels of danger so that individuals can prepare for evacuation and promptly seek refuge in the event of a natural disaster.

So be observant of these 5 levels when they are being announced on TV/Radio or manual announcements being done near your house by ward.
