In Japan, cricket fever is at its peak since players want more and more cricket even in the non-core season of spring and summer, and hence the cricket mania continues in autumn and a part of winter too where Japan Night Cricket Championship is planned.

WHAT IS IT?

12 Challenger teams participating in Japan Night Cricket Championship(JNCC) are a testament to how much the cricket lovers want to play. To be played with a hard tennis green ball, the championship is to be played on 3rd(Sun) and 4th(Mon) (Night 18:00 to 21:00) November in Edogawa-Ku just in the backyard of Seishincho area (Nearest Station Nishikasai).

BEST PART:
One of the best parts of this championship is that players don’t have to travel for hours all the way outside of Tokyo to participate and still get a complete fun of full pitch cricket under floodlights. Teams from all across Tokyo are participating in looking at the popularity of this tournament. Organizers inform us that due to logistics, they had to limit the teams to 12 this time, out of double the team counts, who approached them as soon as the announcement was done. It is not just a cricket championship, but playing under floodlights makes it very unique and first of its kind.

One of the leading players in Japan, who plays in JCLs and other reputed tournaments in Japan, Kuldeep Bisht says, “JNCC is UNIQUE to Japan. It is an opportunity for clubs to experience playing cricket under floodlights on a proper ground. Night cricket is very popular and in-demand but due to lack of resources to play cricket at night, it was due until JNCC”

There has been never a similar kind of Tennis ball Night matches in Tokyo. Speaking to a veteran player Hanif, who has seen cricket in Japan over several years in all possible formats, informs us that “There have been night matches in past but there has been never a full-fledged full pitch championship in Tokyo ever like this one organized by Tokyo Falcons as Japan Night Cricket Championship. Most of the night matches have been either on the top floor of a sports complex with tennis or a couple of matches with season ball in the night, but not like of the scale of Japan Night Cricket Championship.”

In Japan, there has been one in Nagoya but that happened like a one-time event. Nothing close to this has ever happened in full pitch tennis cricket. Thanks to SBI cup organized by Tiger’s club and MIB’s TPL(Tokyo Premier League), who are also helping to popularize the tennis game along with season ball format.  JNCC by Tokyo Falcons also is being played to give avenues to community members to enjoy the game and make it even more accessible for all.
