Tokyo Opening Roadmap by Governor Koike

Earlier today, in press conference, Governor Koike shared the vision of how things will unfold in Tokyo post the decision of removing emergency.

Right now Tokyo is still under the state of emergency. But things might start to change from next week. Koike unveiled a roadmap for Tokyo after it opens up.

Today’s infection figures were as follows:

As per the information shared earlier today, we are in stage 1 as of now. Once the state of emergency will be removed from Tokyo, we will enter in Step 1 (mostly from the next day, but wait for formal announcements). Then after every two weeks, looking at the situation we will either move in the next step or can remain or rollback the step. There are four such steps starting from zero we are in. All four steps are as follows. Bars and areas of most infected cases will be opened as the last step.

Special mention about the event was there saying that assembly of 50 members to be allowed in step 1, till 100 in step 2 & till 1000 as step 3. Also in these situations also the 3Cs should not be forgotten. For sports events still the instruction are not clear, but should occur during step 2 or 3.

The basic approach for the roadmap is as follows:

Talking specially about the schools, it was mentioned that schools will not open abruptly from day one in full scale. Rather it will be opened up sporadically and also preparing students for online lectures so that in case the second wave comes in, it can be handled smoothly. It will start from 1 day a week, for two hours/day and 1/6th of students. Then slowly move to 2-3 days per week, half-day or 1/3rd of students. Then in the end towards 5 days a week, all day for all students.

Then there are seven indicators that will be important to decide what is the current condition in Japan. These seven indicators are from light color to red. These are various stats of how many people infected at the top as red to lowest as number or Consultation calls received. These 7 colors are in the form of rainbow colors

Koike announced an innovative to inform visually about the situation in Tokyo as colors on Rainbow Bridge. The light-up colors at Tokyo Bridge would become fully red if the Governor wants to declare “Tokyo Alert” if the situation deteriorates in the future or in case of the second wave.

Even though, things open up in Tokyo in the near future there has to be cautious about the following points which will become a new normal in post Covid19 situation. We need to continue to keep following 3Cs in Shopping, Leisure, Sports, Public Transport, Eating & Workstyle. More details would be published as we go ahead on how businesses should behave. This would be the “New Way of life”

Like all other countries Governor Koike sees this an opportunity for new ideas about Tokyo and invites all such ideas via the following contact details. Do share your ideas.

Do ask the questions or let us know about what you feel during these trying times in the comment box.

Do share this new normal with your near and dear ones and take precautions even after things start to open.
