People movement decreasing in Japan vs. India ? – Based Google community mobility data

A report by Google on community mobility in the midst of the Covid19 pandemic shows how the movement of community has decreased or increase over a period of time. Refer the data as below

Duration: 16ht Feb to 29th March:

For Japan vs India:

India’s numbers are -77%, -65% & -57% respectively for Japan`s numbers below

  • Huge scope of decrease in all section of Retail & recreation/Grocery and Parks

India is -71%, -47%, +22% for the corresponding numbers of Japan below

  • The huge scope of decrease in Transit and Workplaces. Thes figures have to go down substantially.
  • An increase near the Residential area is an indicator of increase in restraint and more work from home.

For Tokyo:

  • Work from home is higher than the national average but still not comparable to India
  • Average Residential in more than national but still more to increase as compared to India.

The above graphs show that there has been a decrease in movement, but not to a level of countries like India which have implemented to a stricter level.
Even though the numbers are purely based on Google ecosystem data, this does not give us precise information but definitely it can be a indicative info that there is an increase in restraint but not to a level required in such a pandemic scenario.
