Indian Passport Update Procedure in Japan

The process of Passport update is half online and half visiting in person.
Passport Renewal Process (Indian Embassy in Japan)

1. Fill Passport renewal form from the link below from the page “Passport Seva at Indian Embassies and Consulates”
https://portal6.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html

– Create a user ID for this website using Japan as a country. With one user ID, you can apply for forms for the whole family
– Fill up the form for the member you want to renew the passport

Some tips on How to fill the form:

Register by clicking on “Register” Link
Login with the registered login ID and Password on “User Login” link
In the Applicant Home Page, click on “Apply for Ordinary Passport/Emergency Certificate/Police Clearance Certificate/Surrender of Indian Passport/Diplomatic Passport/Official Passport/Identity Certificate” link to file a new application
After successful submission,take a printout of the online submitted form

2. What else needs to be carried?
a. A printed version of the online form you filled in step 1
b. Parents letter (in case applying for kid)
c. Original passport
d. 2 passport size photos
e. Resident Card and Printout of the same
f. Cash for payment

Additional notes:
– Photographs:
Take the printout and paste the picture of the applicant on the same. The background must be white and the size must be 5 cm x 5 cm only. No other size is accepted. You can find a sample of pictures here. https://www.indembassy-tokyo.gov.in/downloads/PhotoSpecs.pdf. You need to submit 2 passport size photographs for processing.
– Documents:
If the applicant is minor then consent letter signed by both the parents needs to be submitted.

3. You need to visit the Embassy of India in Japan (Tokyo in this case), submit the form and wait till it is sent to you by post. No prior appointment is required for submitting the form in the embassy, but try to visit earliest for faster processing.

4. You will receive your old and new passport as a result of this application.

One should get the passport after a month.
